Both Ponyboy Curtis and Greg Heffley are trying to fit in with different peer groups. Ponyboy tries to fit in with the other Greasers even though he likes to read books, watches movies and has a high IQ. Ponyboy likes to act like a Greaser by dressing and the way he talks. Greg will do anything to fit in with the other people of his new school. He joined lots of different clubs trying to fit in, it didn’t work out to well. He told his best friend that he thought that he dressed weird and if they were going to get popular anytime soon that he needs to get some new and better clothes and to stop acting like a little kid because they are in middle school now.
Ponyboy and Greg are both being bullied in their peer groups throught their stories but in very different ways. Ponyboy is bullied by the Socs (The other Gang) another greaser named Steve Randal and his brother Darry Curtis. He has been bullied by the socs the worst, Hew was jumped by them they cut him and cut off clumps of his hair. Greg is bullied at his new middle school by the other students. they wouldn’t let him sit at their tables or include him in anything. Steve Randal calls Ponyboy a kid and thinks that he is a tag along. Greg is mostly bullied by this girl that he has known for a while her name is Patty she would always bully Greg because Greg used to call her names in Kinder garden. She threatened to beat him up many times, Greg was also bullied by the teens in the red truck. They wanted ti “kill” them after they accidentally scratched the teens red truck. It all started after when they soaked Greg and his friend with water then Greg yelled at them that he was going to call the cops on them.
From what I know about Ponyboy and Greg Heffley is, that neither of them ever use their heads before they act or say anything. Greg was jealous of Rowley making a new friend and he wanted to make Rowley jealous so he went and asked Fregly if he wanted to have a sleep over and he went there and he knew that Fregly was a crazy kid he still went to Fregly’s house and Fregly chased him with a booger. One of the times when Ponyboy didn’t use his head as when he was walking alone in the lot. He got jumped by the other gang, the Socs.
Even though Greg and Ponyboy are Two very different people they do share some similarities with each other.
