Why is literacy so important?

I think literacy is important because with out it you wouldn't be able to read or write, which are two things you need to have to succeed in life. Without literacy it would be almost impossible to have a good education, with out it you wouldn't be able to get a good paying job. If you are literate you have a much better chance at a successful future.
